MIDAS' BLACK ICE OF LUNASEA FARM
Alpaca , Suri , Herdsire (Male) |Proven |True Black
AOA# 35205012 | DOB: 6/3/2015
Black Ice is truly a once in a lifetime alpaca. He stunned the show world by winning color champion in all eight shows across the country as a juvenile. To top off his first year, he then won the first annual Supreme Champion award at the 2016 AOA Nationals Show.
Black Ice's genetics speak for themselves: Chakotah's Midas, Chakotah of CCR Suris, Moon River's Peruvian Durango, Prada's Peruvian Beryl Markhams, Macgyver, and Peruvian Silver Heat. Top color genetics expressed in super royal fineness, extreme density in the lock structure and luster, luster, luster! Due to his density, we chose to shear Ice after his juvie show year. His regrowth staple length is incredible, prompting judges and others to question if he was even sheared when in the yearling show ring. His regrowth fleece is absolutely stunning.
Black Ice's 2016 histogram confirmed his fleece is absolutely stunning. His AFD is 15.9 micron with an SD of 4.2. These are incredible fiber stats for a black male, which in fact rival the best of the elite whites.
Ice's skin biopsy was analyzed in 2017 by Dr. Norm Evans. Dr. Evans stated: “Midas Black Ice of Lunasea Farm was biopsied as a 24 month old true black Suri male. His 15x scan shows fiber clusters very uniform in shape and placement within his connective tissue. His true density is 63.25 follicles SQ MM of skin and 25 typical fiber clusters show an average S/P of 12.5 to 1. He shows level 4 of 4 gland presence and 50% of his secondary fibers show a level of medullation. 100 secondary fibers averaged 20.2 microns while 50 primary fibers averaged 28.1 microns for a spread of only 7.9 microns. Midas Black Ice AFD on July 8, 2017 figures 20.83 microns."
Ice was SHIP classified in June 2017. He has perfect scores of 5 in all conformation categories. His fleece scored a perfect 5 for Uniformity of Color and Fleece Phenotype. He scored 4.5 for Luster and Lock Structure and a 4 for Fineness. Classification scores that again confirm his show ring performance.
Black Ice started his breeding career in Oregon in June 2017. He performed like the champion he is and produced multiple blue ribbon offspring for us.
We were heart broken when in October 2018, Black Ice suddenly passed away from a blocked urinary tract. His great legacy lives on in his beautiful offspring. We love and miss you Ice...
Our first Ice granddaugher, Big Timber's Ali McQueen, won Color Champion at the 2022 CABA/AWE show. Taking after grandpa!!
